AIDS Project Greater Danbury

(APGD)

APGD helps actively prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS amongst injection drug users through our robust syringe exchange program. Not only useful in ensuring those struggling with addiction find a stigma-free place to safely dispose of dirty needles; the syringe exchange also acts as a conduit for healthcare that targets a highly variable and difficult to reach population. Importantly, these folks are often notoriously difficult to monitor and get into care, but this program is one of the few that creates trust and honesty where its needed most. The SEP at APGD is focused on trying to link this population to testing, specialized HIV care for those who are positive and substance abuse counseling for those who are ready to get on the road to recovery.
