ASGCC’s harm reduction programs work to decrease the risk of acquiring or transmitting communicable infections such as HIV, viral hepatitis and other sexually transmitted infections. A major focus of this work is among substance users who inject drugs as well as their sexual partners and drug using partners. ASGCC has a team of highly qualified harm reduction specialists who engage active substance users in a confidential and client-centered setting. These services are provided in a non-judgemental, supportive manner with a goal of keeping people as healthy as possible. - We provide relevant education through behavioral risk assessment, development of risk reduction strategies and overdose prevention/reversal training. - We offer public health supplies through out syringe exchange program and access to safer injection materials such as bleach kits, alcohol wipes, sterile water and other harm reduction supplies. - We offer safe disposal of used syringes and injection equipment and encourage this critical public safety practice by providing appropriate bio-hazard sharps containers. Our staff helps individuals navigate complex systems of care including access to substance abuse treatment and resolving insurance/benefits issues. We help clients access primary care, specialized care, behavioral health services and detox programs including Methadone, Suboxone and Vivitrol programs. Free and confidential HIV, Hepatitis C, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Syphilis testing is available by appointment or as a walk-in appointment at either of our Prevention and screening sites. We also distribute an extensive variety of free condoms and personal lubricants. - Overdose prevention/education and Narcan (Naloxone) distribution is available to all active opioid users as well as their friends and family members.
