Overview
The Bexar Area Harm Reduction Coalition (BAHRC) is an all-volunteer non-profit SSP dedicated to offering compassionate and voluntary health interventions to support individuals facing drug-related challenges. Our primary goal is to safeguard human life and contribute to the well-being of the entire community while alleviating the strain on public health services.
Since 2004, BAHRC volunteers have continuously worked to reduce rates of HIV, Hepatitis and other communicable diseases in Bexar County. We offer compassionate, evidence-based services to directly to some of the most vulnerable people with substance use disorder in locations where they live or congregate. We provide Narcan, safe injection supplies, HIV testing, drug checking, information and referrals to other services. Our street medicine team provides physician-supervised field care for the abscesses and lesions that can lead to sepsis, amputations or even death, and provides medical referrals for participants with urgent problems thart call for hospitalization. Through our syringe exchange program we collect and safely dispose of 100,000 + used needles a year.
