Comunidad en Outreach for Resilience and Awareness (CORA) Program
Focus: Harm Reduction Target Population: People who use/inject drugs (PWUD, PWID), with a focus on Spanish-speaking Latino immigrants and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in Los Angeles County.
Mission: CORA, a Mexican-Latino-led program, is dedicated to reducing health risks such as HIV and Hepatitis C among PWID, addressing barriers to care, and promoting culturally competent, low-barrier services delivered with dignity and respect.
Services Provided: Harm reduction supplies (sterile syringes, safe sex/smoking kits, Naloxone distribution, overdose training). Health screenings, referrals to treatment, and sharp waste removal. Street-based engagement in unsheltered and sheltered settings. Collaboration with community stakeholders, street medicine teams, and culturally sensitive practices, including curanderos.
Goals: To decrease communicable diseases, reduce overdose deaths, and improve equitable access to health services for underserved populations.
