Health Equity Alliance  |  Ellsworth, ME

AKA: HEAL, Downeast AIDS Project

Overview

The Health Equity Alliance (HEAL) is a non-profit agency providing direct service and advocating on behalf of Maine's LGBTQ+ community, people living with HIV/AIDS, and people who use drugs. HEAL's Bangor, Ellsworth, and Machias locations offer new, sterile needles in exchange for used needles. This exchange service helps to stop the spread of HIV and Hepatitis C and provide a safe means of disposal for used needles. The program is anonymous and discrete (so, no need to bring an ID), and registering for the program takes only a few minutes!
