Overview
The mission of the Urban League movement is to enable African Americans and other under-served urban residents to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights. The Harm Reduction program includes education of sexually transmitted diseases, referrals to multiple services, individual counseling and skills building demonstrations including safer sex practices and syringe cleaning protocols. The harm reduction model is focused on reaching clients and participants “Where they are”, on the continuum of addiction or recovery. The basic service of the harm reduction program is utilized as a bridge to higher threshold services, such as health care, case management and drug treatment. The staff advocates for the needs of substance users and those who are HIV positive, while maintaining and providing a safe environment to obtain and develop skills in the accessing of appropriate services.
